End of semester survey
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I plan to integrate art into my classroom through big ideas. It is possible to use these big ideas in all subject areas. Visual representations help students explain things in a deeper way or in ways that they couldn't in words. I will use artists that use big ideas in their works to decorate my classroom, and to inspire children to create their own art with these big ideas. I can use VTS to have students find deeper meaning than the surface of a piece of art. This semester I have gained great ideas about how to incorporate big ideas into my lessons especially identity, relationships, celebrations, and stories.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
This semester I have learned how to integrate art and music into other subject areas. This is beneficial to students who express themselves better through the arts or for students who could gain a deeper meaning or understanding of a certain idea through visual representations.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
After this semester I have learned that art isn't about how good or real something looks, its about expression of an idea.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
Through VTS, I have learned how to talk to students about art. Through analyzing a piece of art, and not telling students what it means, students are clearly capable of interpreting a piece of artwork accurately, and personally.
